Our goal-directed therapy service:

  • Is offered in the Lyneham clinic or via telehealth
  • Is booked in 10-week blocks, with each block focused on working towards a goal you have identified
  • Is focused on achieving your goals (i.e. what you wish to gain from therapy)
  • Is designed around building long term skills that you have identified as important to your life

This service is focused on supporting you to achieve something you wish to learn or gain from therapy.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A GOAL-DIRECTED THERAPY APPOINTMENT?

Our goal-directed therapy services are designed around evidence-based and best practice interventions for communication support needs.

During an appointment, you can expect:

  • The speech pathologist will ask you about what you have tried at home, and any progress you have noticed
  • The speech pathologist will work with you to adjust or add new strategies that are likely to help meet your child’s goals
  • You will learn and have the chance to practice these strategies within a variety of types of activities, depending on your goals
  • The speech pathologist will work with you to put this into practice in a way that works for you and your family
  • As a general rule, caregivers should expect to be active participants in all appointments, and to be taught strategies to continue to work towards goals at home

Due to the nature of these appointments, goal-directed therapy services are not able to be provided via school visits. Occasional visits may be provided when there is a specific need (e.g. a teacher has requested a meeting).
