Focused Communication Therapy
Who is eligible?
- Ages: Children aged 5-8 years
- Diagnosis: Suitable for children with a diagnosis (like autism) or those without a diagnosis
- Concerns: Families seeking improvement in any aspect of their child’s communication development
- Goals: Families with specific goals they want to achieve through therapy
Note: This service does not offer drop-off/pick-up activities and does not provide ABA therapy.
How does it work?
Our focused communication therapy service:
- Delivery: Available at our Lyneham clinic or via telehealth
- Booking: Scheduled in 10-week blocks, each targeting a specific goal you’ve identified
- Focus: Aims to achieve your goals and build long-term skills important to your family’s needs
- Support: Designed to help you learn or gain something specific from therapy
What happens during an appointment?
During an appointment, you can expect:
- Progress Discussion: The speech pathologist will ask about what you’ve tried at home and any progress you’ve noticed
- Strategy Adjustment: The speech pathologist will help adjust or add new strategies to better meet your child’s goals
- Practice: You’ll learn and practise strategies through various activities, depending on your goals
- Implementation: The speech pathologist will help you apply these strategies in a way that works for your family
Note: Caregivers should be prepared to actively participate in all appointments and to apply strategies at home. Goal-directed therapy services are not available via school visits, though occasional visits may be arranged if specifically requested by a teacher.
