Stuttering Clinic
Who is eligible?
- Ages: Children aged 3-6 years
- Focus: Children with goals related to reducing or managing stuttering
- Commitment: Families prepared to support daily home practice to achieve and maintain goals
- Resilience: Children should be able to tolerate making mistakes and have some degree of resilience
- Attention: Children should be able to focus for at least 10 minutes at a time
How does it work?
The Stuttering Clinic:
- Delivery: Available at our Lyneham clinic or via telehealth
- Appointments: Weekly 30-minute sessions, with the frequency gradually reduced as progress is made
- Focus: Targets managing stuttering only
- Practice: Includes daily home practice to enhance learning and skill retention
- Efficiency: Aims to achieve goals in as few appointments as possible
What happens during the clinic?
During an appointment, you can expect:
- Progress Review: The speech pathologist will ask about any progress you’ve noticed at home
- Practice Discussion: You’ll review the home practice program, and the speech pathologist will observe your child’s response
- Strategy Adjustment: The speech pathologist will help adjust or add new strategies as needed
- Learning: You’ll learn and practise new strategies during the appointment
- Troubleshooting: The speech pathologist will help address any difficulties and plan home practice to fit your family’s routine
